The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) in Lakes State has dissolved all its leadership structures, from the state level down to the boma level, as the party prepares to conduct internal elections ahead of the upcoming general elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The decision, announced on Monday, follows a directive from the party’s High-Level Committee responsible for organising its congress and primary elections, marking a major restructuring of the party ahead of the electoral processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Outgoing State Secretary Abraham Meen Kuc said the dissolution followed an order issued on Sunday by the committee’s chairperson, David Yau Yau.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He explained that the decision affects party structures at the state, county, payam and boma levels, with existing secretaries reassigned as technical advisers to the High-Level Committee and its organising teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The decision is part of the process of reorganising the party’s structures and preparing for internal elections. All existing leadership structures from the state down to the boma level have been dissolved,” Kuc said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He clarified that the new arrangement applies to SPLM secretaries, while assistant secretaries at various administrative levels will no longer operate under the dissolved structures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kuc further announced that Lakes State had been divided into three zones to facilitate the organisation of the internal elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zone One comprises Rumbek Centre, Rumbek East and Wulu counties, while Zone Two covers Awerial, Yirol East and Yirol West counties. Zone Three includes Cueibet and Rumbek North counties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He urged SPLM members interested in contesting county chairperson positions to register with the organising teams, obtain the required clearance and prepare for the electoral exercise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Anyone interested in running for a county chairperson position must register with the organising team and secure the necessary clearance. Those who do not register will not be allowed to contest when the teams reach their respective counties,” he warned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Thondit Makur Makeny, the newly appointed chairperson of the Congress and Primaries Organising Committee for Rumbek East County, announced that his team comprises five members, including three men and two women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said the organising teams had been directed to proceed to their respective counties immediately to begin preparations for the internal elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Our responsibility is to ensure that the electoral process is organised properly in our areas. We have been directed to move to the counties immediately and start preparations,” Makeny said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also appealed to SPLM members from Rumbek East living in other parts of Lakes State and beyond to return to the county and participate in the electoral process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Makeny added that detailed guidelines and materials required for the exercise would be made available at the county level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rose Yar Ater, deputy chairperson of the organising team for Rumbek East, welcomed her appointment, describing it as an opportunity to contribute to what she called the country’s first-ever elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She urged women across counties, payams and bomas to actively participate in the process and demand their rightful representation under the 35 per cent affirmative action provision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Women should not wait for invitations to take leadership positions. We must assert our interest and demand our rightful representation at all levels,” Yar said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She emphasised that women have the capacity to contribute meaningfully to national development and should be given opportunities to demonstrate their leadership abilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Women have the capacity to lead and contribute to the development of this country. We should take this opportunity to participate in the electoral process and ensure our voices are heard,” she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The internal electoral exercise is expected to help the SPLM reorganise its leadership, select new party officials and strengthen grassroots mobilisation ahead of the upcoming general elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
