Communication Authority (NCA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance cybersecurity, improve regulatory coordination, and bolster the security of digital financial services across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The agreement was signed on Thursday at the bank&#8217;s premises by Dr. Addis Ababa Othow, Governor of the Bank of South Sudan, and Gieth Kon Mathiang, Director General of the National Communication Authority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This partnership aims to strengthen collaboration between the two institutions in addressing cybersecurity threats and improving the safety and reliability of digital financial services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally, the agreement seeks to enhance regulatory cooperation as South Sudan continues to expand its digital financial services and telecommunications infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the signing ceremony, Dr. Othow emphasized that strengthening cybersecurity is crucial for ensuring secure and reliable communication systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;For the people of South Sudan, secure communication networks, reliable information systems, and robust cybersecurity arrangements are fundamental to the effective functioning of our financial system,&#8221; Dr. Othow stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He noted that the bank&#8217;s mandate extends beyond formulating monetary policies and regulating financial institutions to safeguarding the integrity, security, and resilience of the country&#8217;s financial infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;As we continue to modernize our banking infrastructure to strengthen digital payment systems, promote electronic transactions, and expand financial inclusion, we must equally enhance the security and resilience of the technologies and environment that support this development,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr. Othow underscored that cybersecurity is no longer solely an ICT concern but a critical responsibility that encompasses institutional governance, financial stability, national security, and economic resilience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;In today&#8217;s rapidly evolving digital environment, threats to communication networks and information systems can have far-reaching implications for financial institutions, payment systems, and government operations,&#8221; he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He mentioned that the bank is actively working to integrate systems that will support financial services and strengthen the country&#8217;s digital financial infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gieth Kon Mathiang characterized the agreement as a significant step toward making digital financial services safer and more reliable for the people of South Sudan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Today, mobile money facilitates trade and payments; a parent can send money home and access banking services without enduring long distances,&#8221; Mathiang remarked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;By collaborating with the Bank of South Sudan and the National Communication Authority, we can better address the risks affecting these services.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He added that the deal aims to build the skills necessary to identify security risks and
