St. Michael Catholic Quasi Parish in Naziragbe One, Nzara County, has raised 9 million South Sudanese Pounds in a fundraising drive aimed at completing its long-delayed church building, which has reached the roofing stage.

The fundraising event, held on Sunday, October 4, 2026, brought together parishioners, community leaders and other supporters to mobilize resources for the construction project, which has faced prolonged financial challenges.

Madam Regina Naumba, chairperson of the fundraising committee, said the construction has taken longer than expected because of a lack of sufficient funds.

She appealed to the “sons and daughters of Naziragbe” living abroad to join the local community in supporting the completion of the church.

Naumba said the parish estimates that 50 million SSP is needed to complete the building.

She said the parish will continue seeking support and plans to organize additional fundraising activities to raise the remaining funds.

Naumba also called on local and church leaders, as well as the youth and women of Naziragbe One, to take collective responsibility for the project rather than leaving the burden of construction to a few individuals.

Among those who supported the fundraising was General Alex Abayosa, who thanked the organizers for inviting him and pledged continued support for the church construction.

Abayosa and his wife, Tagbala, donated 1.5 million SSP toward the project, describing their contribution as support for “the work of God.”

The Caretaker Governor of Western Equatoria State, Daniel Badagbu Rimbasa, also contributed 1 million SSP toward the completion of the church.

Other well-wishers pledged financial support, while three engineers offered their professional services free of charge to assist with the construction.

During Holy Mass, Father Anthony Bangoye, Parish Priest of St. Michael Catholic Quasi Parish in Naziragbe One, encouraged the faithful to unite behind the construction project.

He commended the initiative for bringing the community together in support of the church and urged parishioners and other well-wishers to contribute according to their ability.

“God sees the generosity of every person,” Father Bangoye said.

Regina Naumba and Elia Richard Box were recognized for their continued efforts toward advancing the construction of the church.

The parish leadership and fundraising committee are appealing to individuals, families, community leaders, church leaders and well-wishers, both within South Sudan and abroad, to continue supporting the project.

With an estimated 50 million SSP required to complete the building, the parish says significant resources are still needed.

The fundraising campaign will continue, with additional activities planned to help raise the remaining funds and bring the long-delayed church project to completion.
