Rin Tueny Mabor, has assured the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) that the security situation across the state is calm following communal clashes between the Pakam and Kuei communities that left 60 people dead and 78 others wounded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mabor said the violence was a communal conflict rather than political fighting, adding that it began outside the town before spreading into residential areas, resulting in casualties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He described the clashes as a serious communal disaster but said the state government had brought the situation under control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the governor, 60 people were confirmed dead, while 78 others sustained injuries. He said the deceased had been buried in different locations by their families, while those wounded had been admitted to various hospitals for treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mabor assured residents that his administration remained committed to restoring peace among the people of Lakes State and maintaining peaceful relations with neighbouring counties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said protecting people&#8217;s lives and property remained a priority for his caretaker government, particularly as the country prepares for elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The governor added that security forces had been deployed over the weekend to strengthen security and oversee the situation across the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said residents had resumed their daily activities, with no road ambushes or other isolated security incidents reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite the improved security situation, Mabor expressed concern over the humanitarian challenges facing the state, particularly the impact of a prolonged dry spell on agricultural production and livestock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He warned that the dry conditions could worsen food insecurity, as crops had been affected and livestock faced water shortages and limited grazing opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mabor called on humanitarian agencies to ensure access to affected communities and provide assistance to civilians facing growing hardship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said timely humanitarian intervention was necessary to help communities cope with the effects of the dry spell and prevent a worsening hunger crisis in Lakes State.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The caretaker Governor of Lakes State, Gen.
