The Caretaker Governor of Western Equatoria State, Badagbu Daniel Rimbasa, has appealed to armed groups still operating in the bush to renounce violence, return to their communities, and embrace dialogue as South Sudan prepares for its planned December elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking at a public rally at Yambio Airstrip on Monday, Governor Rimbasa emphasized that peace and security are essential for citizens to safely exercise their democratic rights. He urged those involved in armed activities to reconsider their position and join efforts to restore stability across the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The governor stressed that lasting peace requires a collective commitment to dialogue, reconciliation, and the protection of civilians. He called on all parties to work together to ensure communities can live without fear and participate peacefully in the country’s electoral process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rimbasa encouraged members of armed groups to return to their communities, where they can contribute to rebuilding their lives and the nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 “The time has come for our people to embrace peace and stop the suffering caused by conflict. Those who are still in the bush should come back home and join their brothers and sisters in building a peaceful Western Equatoria State,” Rimbasa stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added that continued insecurity would hinder residents’ freedom of movement, business activities, and full participation in the country’s political process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We want to see our people traveling safely on our roads without fear. Our citizens should be able to go to their farms, markets, schools, and health facilities without worrying about insecurity,” the governor said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rimbasa also called on community leaders, traditional authorities, religious leaders, and other stakeholders to intensify engagement with armed groups, encouraging their peaceful return to communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He stressed that restoring peace is a collective responsibility, not solely the government’s, and that joint action is necessary to address insecurity and promote peaceful coexistence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The government cannot build peace alone. We need the support of our community leaders, elders, religious leaders, youth, and every citizen. Let us speak with one voice and encourage those still in the bush to return home peacefully,” he urged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With South Sudan’s national elections planned for December 22, 2026, the caretaker governor highlighted that security would be crucial for eligible citizens to participate without fear, intimidation, or violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He urged political actors and armed groups to respect peaceful political participation and allow citizens to choose their leaders through the ballot box.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Elections are an opportunity for our people to exercise their democratic rights. We want our citizens to participate peacefully and freely, without fear. Violence should not be the way we resolve our political differences,” Rimbasa asserted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He called on all stakeholders to respect dialogue and peaceful political processes, emphasizing that disagreements should be addressed through peaceful means rather than armed confrontation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The governor further emphasized that improved security along major roads in Western Equatoria State would help restore public confidence, facilitate trade, and strengthen social and economic activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He urged residents to cooperate with authorities by sharing credible security information and avoiding actions that could fuel tensions among communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Peace begins with each one of us. Let us reject violence, avoid spreading messages that create hatred, and work together to protect our communities. We must give our children a future where they can grow up in peace,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rimbasa reiterated his appeal to armed groups to take advantage of ongoing peace efforts and return to civilian life, prioritizing the safety and future of their families and communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He stated that Western Equatoria State needs stability for residents to resume normal activities, strengthen community relations, and contribute to the state’s development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The caretaker governor also encouraged citizens to support peaceful coexistence and cooperate with efforts aimed at ensuring security before, during, and after the planned elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

South Sudan’s announced electoral timetable sets December 22, 2026, as the planned date for national elections, though the conduct of the polls will depend on preparations and the prevailing political and security environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
