Activist urges political leaders not to return country to war

The Executive Director of the Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO), Edmund Yakani, yesterday called on political leaders to keep their promise of not returning the country back to war amid the ongoing political tension.
In a statement issued in Juba, Yakani urged political leaders to restore peace in States experiencing violence.

“We are tightening our nut to let at least the prevalence of peace in this country. It is through the existence of peace that will of course, allow citizens of this beautiful nation to perform what is expected of them," he said.

Minister calls for speedy allocation of funds to ease marking of examination papers

The Minister of General Education and Instruction, Kuyok Abol Kuyok, has asked government to speed up the release of funds to enable the smooth transportation and marking of national examination papers.
“I would strongly recommend that you pay special attention to the issues that hinder timely conduct of the examination, issues such as lack of vehicles to enhance efficiency in the transportation of the examination papers, timely release of funds from the Ministry of Finance and Planning to meet the settlements of government obligations such as marking of examination papers and of course investment in ICT innovations," said Kuyok, yesterday during the opening of the 20th meeting of the National Examination Council in Juba.

Ruweng chief administrator vows to improve security

The newly appointed Chief Administrator of Ruweng Administrative Area, Stephano Wieu, has vowed to improve security in the oil rich region following his appointment last week by President Salva Kiir.

“My focus will be protecting our people, providing security, sustaining peace, and promoting social cohesion. Third on the agenda will be production,” Wieu said during his swearing-in ceremony as the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement party chairman on Tuesday in Juba.

Over 73,000 candidates pass 2024 CPE exams

At least 73,326 candidates passed the 2024 Certificate of Primary Education (CPE) Examination following the release of the results yesterday by the Ministry of General Education and Instruction in Juba.
Kuyok Abol Kuyok, the Minister of General Education and Instruction said 77,264 candidates out 79,010 who registered from 1,814 schools sat for the examination at 522 examination centers across the country.

Parliament begins registration as lawmakers return from recess

The Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA) has commenced the registration of lawmakers returning from a four-month recess to determine attendance prior to the reopening of the house.

Oliver Mori Benjamin, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee for Information and Communication, stated that once quorum is met, parliament will reopen.

Government to establish first mobile court in Leer County

The transitional unity government is set to establish a mobile court in Leer County, Unity State, running from 15 April to 9 May 2025 following absence of judges in the area for a decade.
In a statement issued on Monday by the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), the initiative is a joint effort by the judiciary, the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, and the Unity State government, with support from UNMISS.

N. Bahr el Ghazal State builds culverts to mitigate floods

The government of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State in partnership with Africa Resource Corporation (ARC), on Sunday embarked on the construction of culverts in flood-prone areas to mitigate the impact of floods during the rainy season.

Simon Ober Mawut, Governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, said they have started to install culverts to improve water flow and prevent blockages that exacerbate flooding.

Korean football coach distributes medical adhesives to sport associations

The Korean Mission represented by Korean football coach, Hung Se Lim, has provided sports medical adhesives to 15 sport associations and teams engaged in various activities in the country.
“From the perspective of Korea, I think there is hope for the development of sports in South Sudan as shown by basketball at the French Olympics, the Ghanaian Olympic gold medal, and the thorough training of sport such as volleyball and badminton,” said Lim in an interview on Monday.
