SPLM-FD Chief Whip Rejects Expulsion, Accuses Biar, Majak of Personal Agenda

The embattled Chief Whip of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-Former Detainees (SPLM-FD) in the Transitional National Legislative Assembly has rejected his expulsion from the party, accusing senior figures Madut Biar Yel and Dr. Majak D’Agoot of pursuing a personal agenda.

His comments followed the immediate revocation of his party membership by three senior figures within the Former Detainees: General Gier Chuang Aluong, Madut Biar Yel, and Dr. Majak D’Agoot.

They accused him of making unauthorized public statements on behalf of the group, asserting that his conduct violated its code and internal rules.

Addressing journalists at a press conference on Thursday, Isaiah Hakim Garang, SPLM-FD’s Chief Whip, accused Biar and Majak of attempting to undermine the party leadership and using the former detainees to advance their personal interests.

“They want to use the former political detainees for their personal interests and to allow people to go against our government. We will not allow that,” Garang stated.

Garang urged Biar and Majak to form their own political party rather than involving the former detainees in their internal political dispute.

“We are maintaining our position as the former political detainees in the R-ARCSS and under the leadership of Kiir Mayardit. If they have courage enough, let them come out very clear to form their own party,” he said.

Garang added that the former detainees would not allow the two leaders to use the group to blackmail the country’s leadership.

He claimed that Dr. Majak D’Agoot, a former deputy minister of defense, was now portraying himself as a defender of Vice President Rebecca Nyandeng De Mabior, despite having opposed her appointment.

“Now they are pretending they are protecting Mama Rebecca. And they are liars. When we endorsed the agreement in Nairobi, there was again, in particular, Dr. Majak,” he said.

“He opposed when we proposed Mama Rebecca. She is the one going to be the vice president. But in the agreement, it is written there she should be a woman.”

He added that “He (Majak) went ahead. He mobilized female members from South Sudan. And because he wanted to make an alliance with Nyandeng Malek, the former governor of Warrap State who joined FDs after we signed the peace agreement.”

The SPLM-FD’s Chief Whip accused Biar and Majak of working against the interests of the state, referring to them as “dark forces” in the ongoing political dispute.

“So I want to tell the media houses and all the South Sudanese that these are dark forces working against our state and our party,” Garang said.

He rejected the decision to be expelled from the Former Detainees, saying those who issued the order do not represent the group and describing the document as “not authentic.”

“In their letter they are claiming that they disown me and they dismiss me from the group of former political detainees. First of all, I want to make clarification on that. This document is not an authentic document.”
