The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) has donated 150 school desks to Mahad Primary School, aiming to improve classroom conditions and create a more conducive learning environment for students. This initiative reaffirms TİKA’s commitment to supporting education in South Sudan.
Mustafa Giray Jezel, TİKA Programme Coordinator in South Sudan, spoke at the handover ceremony, stating that the donation is part of the agency’s ongoing development initiatives. These initiatives focus on enhancing educational opportunities and supporting learning institutions nationwide.
“We are here to hand over 150 desks for school pupils. We hope this will help create an even more conducive environment for the learners. The Turkish agency is ready to support education in South Sudan,” Jezel stated.
TİKA’s projects primarily focus on vocational training, alongside numerous other initiatives, including strengthening administrative and social infrastructures, health services, and clean water and borehole drilling.
Jezel explained that his visit to Mahad Primary School was part of an ongoing project to support education. He added that he plans to visit the school again when other projects undertaken by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency are implemented.
“One cannot stress enough the importance of education. We appreciate Mahad Primary School for opening their doors. We are providing school desks to help achieve success in school; we want individuals to serve themselves and the country,” he said.
Al-Nur Kur, Director of Mahad Institute, emphasized the importance of the support provided by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency for achieving educational success, noting that such projects help create a conducive learning environment.
Kur revealed that Mahad Primary School hosts students whose families have been affected by persistent economic shocks, leading to a shortage of desks for the primary school learners.
“We are supported with school desks, and that eases the burden for the parents. We are not charging money; we want children to learn. We have the opportunity for every child to learn,” Kur said.
