The Warrap State Government has pledged to reinforce security forces in violence-hit areas of Tonj North County and to identify and arrest those responsible for a series of deadly attacks that have claimed dozens of lives and left many others wounded. This initiative aims to contain escalating insecurity in Akop Payam.

In an official statement issued on Wednesday, Caretaker State Minister of Information and Communication Services William Wol Mayom Bol reported that a fresh attack occurred in Bundir village, Akop Payam, around 5:00 a.m. on October 27, 2026.

The attack targeted civilians in an area inhabited by the Apuk Padoc and Matik sub-sections of Marial-Lou.

According to the state government, the attack resulted in 12 fatalities and 13 injuries.

Bol alleged that suspected armed elements from Tonj East-Riem (Abuong) and the Wunlual, Wunkuc, and Macuet sub-sections of Marial-Lou Payam were involved.

Bol stated that the government is reinforcing security forces in hotspot areas and is actively working to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.

“The State Government calls for calm and restraint as we reinforce forces in hotspot areas and work to apprehend the perpetrators of this attack,” he said.

This incident follows an earlier attack in Akop Payam, Tonj North County, where 72 people were reportedly killed and 38 others injured. This attack lasted from Monday morning until late evening, according to a senior state official.

Caretaker Information Minister William Wol Mayom Bol condemned the violence, alleging that the earlier attack involved armed groups from Mayom County in neighboring Unity State and parts of Alabek Payam.

“The Government of Warrap State, under the leadership of Hon. Ustaz Angelo Ngot Mayar, Caretaker Governor, strictly condemns, in the strongest terms, the senseless, barbaric, coordinated, and persistent attacks against innocent civilians,” Bol stated.

He noted that the violence also led to the burning of Bundir village and several households, with properties looted during the incident.

The attacks have raised concerns about the safety of civilians in the affected communities. The state government has pledged to strengthen security deployments and pursue those suspected of involvement in the violence.

Bol reiterated that the government is working to identify and apprehend the perpetrators while urging residents to remain calm and exercise restraint as security forces respond to the situation.

He also extended condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

The minister appealed to humanitarian agencies for emergency assistance to families affected by the violence, particularly those whose homes were burned and properties looted.

He urged residents to maintain calm and exercise restraint as authorities work to restore security and bring those responsible for the attacks to justice.
