Juba County has launched a solar street lighting project along Bilpam Road in a move aimed at improving public security, modernizing infrastructure, and extending essential services beyond the county administration offices.

Caretaker Commissioner Moulana Kalisto Lado Faustino Wani presided over the groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, marking the start of the project, which is being implemented by Light House General Trading and Investment Co. Ltd.

During the ceremony, Wani articulated that this initiative underscores his dedication to delivering tangible improvements for residents. He also announced plans to expand solar street lighting to additional roads throughout the county.

“I am here to serve our people, not just to sit in the office. This is only the beginning, and we intend to extend street lighting to other roads across Juba County,” Wani stated.

The project is anticipated to significantly improve lighting along Bilpam Road. However, the county administration did not disclose details regarding the number of street lights to be installed or the projected completion date.

Light House General Trading and Investment Co. Ltd. affirmed its commitment to supporting Juba County’s development agenda.

Wani also issued a stern warning to motorists regarding reckless driving that could damage the new street light poles. He stated that those responsible would face severe financial and criminal penalties.

“Anyone who drives recklessly and knocks down a pole will pay a fine of 5,000 US dollars and face three months’ imprisonment. We are not joking with this development project,” he declared.

The commissioner urged residents to cooperate with the county government and support development initiatives funded by public resources.

He stressed the importance of protecting public infrastructure, cautioning that damage to the street lights could impede efforts to improve services and develop the county.

Furthermore, Wani called upon residents to support the leadership of Central Equatoria State Caretaker Governor Gen. Augustino Jadalla Kamilo Wani and President Salva Kiir Mayardit.

This launch contributes to the county’s ongoing infrastructure development, with the commissioner reiterating his intention to extend solar street lighting to more roads across Juba County.
