The South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) announced on Tuesday the recovery of four firearms after repelling a series of attacks by Sudan People’s Liberation Army-in-Opposition (SPLA-IO) forces at Wunkur.

According to a press release from SSPDF spokesperson Maj. Gen. Lul Ruai Koang, the weapons were seized from fighters killed during clashes on October 3 and 4, 2026.

Gen. Koang specified that the recovered weapons included one PKM machine gun, an RPG-7 grenade launcher, and two AKM-47 assault rifles.

The SSPDF reported that the clashes began when SPLA-IO forces launched what it described as “sequenced attacks” on the national army’s position at Wunkur.

“Four guns, comprising one PKM, an RPG-7 grenade launcher, and two AKM-47 assault rifles, were recovered from fallen fighters,” Koang stated.

The army spokesman claimed that all attacks were repelled, resulting in 13 attackers killed and one captured.

He further elaborated, “On 3rd and 4th October, 2026, SPLA-IO rebels launched sequenced attacks on the national army’s position at Wunkur.”

Koang added that the captured fighter, who was wounded during the engagement, is expected to be airlifted to Juba for specialized medical treatment and further investigation.

“All attacks were repelled, thirteen attackers eliminated, and one was captured. The wounded prisoner of war will be airlifted to Juba for specialized treatment and further investigations,” he confirmed.

Koang did not disclose whether government forces sustained any casualties during the clashes.

The army also did not provide further details regarding the circumstances of the reported attacks or the exact location of Wunkur.
