The Caretaker Commissioner of Awerial County in Lakes State, Biar Dhieu Akucjang on Monday urged politicians, youth, women, and community members to avoid inciting violence and to maintain unity as South Sudan prepares for the December 2026 general elections.
Speaking with media on Monday, Commissioner Biar warned against hate speech, incitement, and actions that could trigger violence.
“Now we are approaching elections. I want our people, both politicians and the local community, youth, and women, to respect and avoid instigating conflicts,” Biar said.
Biar emphasized that political differences should not be allowed to trigger conflicts, warning that some individuals might exploit the election period to advance their own agendas by provoking tensions within communities.
“I know election times are always crazy. There are people who come with different agendas, people who will try to instigate and incite people,” he said.
He assured that the local administration would take measures to ensure a peaceful environment for political activities and fair treatment of all candidates.
“I want to assure the state government that the county government of Awerial will put everything in place,” he said.
“We will ensure that we create a conducive ground for everybody seeking political office without bias and intimidation.”
Biar urged residents to remain vigilant against individuals seeking to incite violence or create divisions among communities.
“Candidates should be able to get fair treatment and pursue their positions without infringing on their competitors’ rights,” he said.
“So, I think that’s the final thing I can say: that we are going to remain united despite the political differences during elections.”
He assured the state government of his commitment to providing a conducive environment for all political candidates to campaign and compete without bias, intimidation, or interference with their rights.
He stressed that candidates should be given equal opportunities to pursue their political ambitions while respecting the rights of their competitors.
“Both the citizens and their property and resources are secure in our county. I will have a close meeting with security officers and security operators in our county so that we put in place what will make us succeed in the agenda of securing our county as well as the state,” he said.
Biar called on residents to remain united despite their political differences, stressing that peaceful coexistence should remain a priority throughout the electoral process.
