Prominent civil society activist Dabek Mabior Arok has declared his bid for a party-list parliamentary seat representing Twic East County under the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM). He pledges to prioritize education, peace and stability, and national reconciliation.

Arok announced his candidacy on Wednesday in Bor, Jonglei State, during the opening of the registration and nomination exercise. He stated that leadership should be defined by responsibility and accountability rather than personal ambition.

“I believe leadership is not about personal ambition; it is about responsibility and accountability. We need to improve education, secure peace and stability, and promote reconciliation,” Arok said.

He added, “I aspire to represent Constituency No. 10, Twic East County, Jonglei State, at the National Legislative Assembly. I stand before you with humility, commitment, and a strong desire to serve our people.”

On October 20,2026, Josephine Napwon Cosmos, Chairperson of the SPLM Primaries Organizing Committee in Jonglei State and Member of the Political Bureau, consulted with Moses Majok Gatluak, the caretaker governor, ahead of the launch of the SPLM primaries and congresses in the state.

Several political aspirants continue to express their intention to seek elective positions at the national and subnational levels as the SPLM prepares for primaries ahead of the scheduled 2026 general elections.

Arok previously served as Deputy Chairperson and Secretary General of the South Sudan Civil Society Alliance (SSCSA), where he frequently engaged in advocacy and supported transitional justice.

Arok is seeking a party-list parliamentary seat in the general elections scheduled for December 22, 2026, to represent the people of Twic East County, Jonglei, in the National Legislative Assembly.

Aspiring candidates seeking elective positions are registered under four categories: gubernatorial and chief administrator positions, geographical constituency seats, party lists, and women’s lists.
